Africa50, the pan-Africa infrastructure investment platform, and Blue like an Orange Sustainable Capital (Blue like an Orange), a recognised player in private debt in Latin America, announced a partnership today to mobilise private capital to invest structured finance/ mezzanine instruments in infrastructure-focused companies and projects in Africa.

The strategic partnership between the two organisations will leverage their impressive track records, global and regional networks, and complementary capabilities to attract more institutional capital to fill Africa’s infrastructure funding imbalance. The partnership aims to deliver attractive risk-adjusted returns and sustainable infrastructure to drive economic growth in Africa.

The partnership was announced in Paris on the sidelines of the New Global Financing Pact, which focused predominantly on climate, development, debt, and innovative financing solutions to fund infrastructure to stimulate economic growth.

“Both Africa’s infrastructure needs and opportunities are substantial,” said Alain Ebobissé, CEO of Africa50. “It is essential to leverage innovative financing models and instruments in order to tap into new investor pools, which is why this partnership with Blue like an Orange is significant. During the announcement of the partnership in Paris, Mr. Ebobisse remarked, “It brings together similar institutions to address the infrastructure gap on the continent.”

Together with Africa50, Blue like an Orange, which has extensive experience in emerging markets, notably Latin America, brings its expertise and knowledge of emerging markets to the African infrastructure landscape.

Bertrand Badré, Managing Partner and Founder of Blue like an Orange, stated, “Structured credit is an essential instrument for financing infrastructure.” This has been our experience over the past six years in Latin America. We are excited to share and expand our experience in Africa through the innovative partnership we intend to establish with Africa50. If we are to live up to the expectations raised at the Summit for a New Global Financing Pact held in Paris this week, public and private cooperation is crucial.
